Strong demand and tight supply, lithium carbonate price index rises

ECHEMI 2021-03-19

According to reports, the first mid-month assessment by Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, a battery supply chain research and price reporting agency, showed that China's lithium price continued to rise exponentially against the backdrop of strong demand for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. Benchmark's mid-March battery-grade lithium carbonate mid-point price ((EXW China, ≥99.0% Li2CO3) shows that the raw material has risen 88% since the beginning of the year to over US$12,600 per ton, the highest level since March 2019.

This round of Lithium Carbonate price increase is mainly caused by the imbalance between supply and demand. Demand for new energy vehicles and other fields has exploded. From a supply perspective, tight ore resources are one of the main factors leading to the rise in lithium prices this time. From the beginning of 2021 to the present, the overall supply and demand gap is about 20% to 25%.

According to the subject database of the Financial Association, among the relevant listed companies:

Tianqi Lithium is the world's leading lithium battery new energy core material supplier integrating upstream lithium resource reserve, development and midstream lithium product processing.

The main products of Ganfeng Lithium include more than 20 kinds of lithium metal (industrial grade, battery grade), lithium carbonate (battery grade), lithium chloride, etc., which are the domestic lithium series products with the most complete variety, the longest product processing chain, and process technology. One of the most comprehensive professional manufacturers.
