US-based lubricant and fuel additive producer Afton Chemical has completed a second phase expansion of its chemical additive manufacturing facility in Jurong Island, Singapore.
With an investment of S$222-mn ($162.5-mn), the upgrade will enable the company to produce advanced ashless dispersants and anti-wear components that enable vehicles to meet performance standardslubricant and fuel additive.

Afton operates as a wholly owned subsidiary of NewMarket. It started its Singapore operations in May 2016 when it first opened its manufacturing facility at Jurong Island. The second phase investment follows the first phase, which totalled S$158-mn ($115.7-mn). Under the two phases, the company has invested a total of S$380-mn ($278.2-mn) in Singapore.
“This facility was key to Afton’s plans to ensure that our products are ‘Made in Asia for Asia’. Our Jurong Island plant now has the full capability to produce core engine oil additives that we need for the Asia Pacific region,” commented Ms. Gina Harm, Afton Chemical’s President. “We are also proud to say that we are investing in advanced technologies that will contribute towards longer term goals of reducing carbon emissions,” she added.
