What are the uses of pgmea solvent in the chemical industry?

ECHEMI 2024-04-19

Pgmea solvent is a colorless hygroscopic liquid with a special smell. It is a non-pollution solvent with multiple functional groups. Mainly used as solvent for inks, paints, inks, textile dyes, and textile oils. The purified high-purity electronic grade specifications are used as photoresist solvents and cleaning agents in the production of semiconductors and liquid crystal displays. Let's discover the uses of Pgmea solvent in the chemical industry through its properties

Pgmea, also called propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate, or 1-methoxy-2-propanol acetate is P-type glycol ether, has a molecular formula of C₆H₁₂O₃. , CAS No. is 108-65-6, melting point is −67°C , colorless liquid, with a boiling point of 146°C, is a high-grade solvent. Flammable and may form explosive vapor or air mixtures above 42°C.

Pgmea is an important advanced solvent with strong solubility for both polar and non-polar substances. Its solubility is much higher than that of general solvents and propylene glycol ethers and ethylene glycol ethers, and it has good miscibility with water. Pgmea can be used as a solvent for cellulose, polymers, rubber and natural macromolecules. Due to its high solubility, good environmental performance, excellent thermal stability and small viscosity change, Pgmea is widely used in coatings, inks, printing and dyeing, pesticides and other fields, and is replacing the more toxic ethylene glycol ethers and their ester solvents.

As a low-toxic advanced industrial solvent, pgmea is currently widely used in the fields of electronic chemicals, LCD screens, and process solvents including inks, coatings, textile dyes, and paints. In the semiconductor industry, PGMEA is a commonly used solvent, mainly used for the application of surface adhesives such as Bis(trimethylsilyl)amine (HMDS) on silicon wafers. This compound is often the most abundant airborne molecular contaminant (AMC) in semiconductor clean rooms due to its evaporation into the surrounding air.

In summary, pgmea is an important organic synthetic solvent with many unique properties and a wide range of applications.
