The 2020 transcripts of 46 chemical companies around the world are released

Recently, major listed chemical companies in the world have announced their 2020 annual results. This article collates the financial reports of 46 large chemical companies.

 

Europe

   BASF, the world's largest chemical company, has sales of 59.1 billion euros (approximately US$70.6 billion) in 2020, the same as in 2019. Excluding special items, EBIT was 3.6 billion euros, a decrease of 23% from the previous year.

   LyondellBasell Industry (LyondellBasell) announced that its sales revenue in 2020 was 27.753 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2019 it was 34.727 billion U.S. dollars. The annual net profit was 1.427 billion US dollars, compared with 3.397 billion US dollars last year.

   Linde plc has sales of US$27.243 billion in 2020 and US$28.228 billion in 2019. The annual net profit was 2.5 billion U.S. dollars, compared with 2.285 billion U.S. dollars in the previous year.

   Air Liquide announced its 2020 sales of 20.485 billion euros (approximately 24.4 billion U.S. dollars), down 6.5% from 2019. Among them, gas and service sales amounted to 19.665 billion euros. The annual recurring operating income was 3.79 billion euros and the net profit was 2.435 billion euros.

  Evonik's adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) in 2020 was 1.91 billion euros, and in 2019 it was 2.15 billion euros. Sales amounted to 12.2 billion euros (approximately $14.6 billion) and 13.1 billion euros in 2019. The group's net income fell to 465 million euros in 2020 and 2.1 billion euros in 2019.

   INEOS GROUP HOLDINGS S.A. has revenue of 11.3 billion euros (approximately US$13.5 billion) in 2020, and 13.7 billion euros in 2019. The net profit for the year was 576 million euros, and the net profit for the previous year was 723 million euros.

   Covestro announced that its 2020 sales fell by 13.7% year-on-year to approximately 10.7 billion euros (approximately US$12.8 billion). Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) was approximately 1.5 billion euros, compared with approximately 1.6 billion euros in the previous year. Net profit reached 459 million euros, a year-on-year decrease of 16.8%.

   Solvay has sales of 9.714 billion euros (approximately US$11.6 billion) in 2020 and 11.227 billion euros in 2019. The net loss for the year was 962 million euros and the net profit for the previous year was 118 million euros.

  Henkel announced its sales of 19.25 billion euros in 2020 and 20.114 billion euros in 2019. The EBIT profit for the year was 688 million euros, compared with 973 million euros in the previous year.

   AkzoNobel announced the revenue of 8.53 billion euros (approximately 10.2 billion US dollars) in 2020, and 9.276 billion euros in 2019. The net profit for the year was 630 million euros, compared with 538 million euros in the previous year.

   DSM announced sales of 8.106 billion euros (approximately USD 9.69 billion) in 2020 and 7.998 billion euros in 2019. The adjusted EBITDA profit for the whole year was 1.534 billion euros, compared with 1.551 billion euros the previous year.

   Arkema Group (Arkema) announced that its 2020 sales will reach 7.9 billion euros (approximately 9.445 billion U.S. dollars), a slight decrease of 8% year-on-year at a constant exchange rate. In 2020, EBITDA reached 1.182 billion euros, a year-on-year decrease of 18.9%. Adjusted net income for 2020 is 391 million euros.

   LANXESS announced that its 2020 sales will be 6.104 billion euros (approximately 7.3 billion US dollars), a decrease of 10.3% from the 6.802 billion euros in the previous year. Net income from continuing operations was 908 million euros, a significant increase from the 240 million euros in the previous year.

   Firmenich International SA, a private company in aromas and tastes, announced the results for the first half of fiscal year 2021 ending on December 31, 2020. Total revenue reached 1.997 billion Swiss francs (approximately 2.17 billion US dollars), achieving a natural growth of 2.3%. Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) was 367 million Swiss francs, a year-on-year increase of 1.6%.

Syngenta Group (Syngenta Group) for the whole year of 2020, group sales of 23.1 billion US dollars, an increase of 5% compared with the same pro forma data in 2019; if excluding the impact of 1.5 billion US dollars of exchange losses (at a fixed exchange rate), the year-on-year growth 12%. The EBITDA profit for the full year of 2020 was US$4 billion, a year-on-year increase of 3%.

   Bayer AG has sales of 41.400 billion euros in 2020 and 43.545 billion euros in 2019. Excluding special items, the profit before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization was 11.461 billion euros, compared with 11.474 billion euros in the previous year. The net loss was 10.495 billion euros and the 2019 net profit was 4.091 billion euros.

   Yara International ASA's revenue in 2020 was 11.728 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2019 it was 12.936 billion U.S. dollars. The annual net profit was US$690 million, compared with US$589 million in the previous year.

   WACKER Chemie’s sales in 2020 were 4.69 billion euros. Due to the impact of the epidemic, it was down 5% year-on-year, and EBITDA was down 15% year-on-year to 666 million euros.

   Borealis has sales of 8.776 billion euros in 2020 and 9.768 billion euros in 2019; the company's net profit is 589 million euros, which is a significant drop compared with 872 million euros in 2019.

 

North America

   Dow's net sales in 2020 were 38.542 billion U.S. dollars, down 10% year-on-year; net profit was 1.294 billion U.S. dollars, and it recorded a net loss of 1.272 billion U.S. dollars in 2019.

   DuPont's net sales in 2020 were 20.397 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2019 it was 21.512 billion U.S. dollars. The net loss for the year was US$2.951 billion, and the net profit of the previous year was US$498 million.

   Sherwin-Williams has net sales of 18.361 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, and 17.9 billion U.S. dollars in 2019. The net profit for the year was US$2.03 billion, compared with US$1.541 billion in the previous year.

   PPG Industries (PPG INDUSTRIES) net sales of 13.834 billion U.S. dollars in 2020, 15.146 billion U.S. dollars in 2019. The annual net profit was US$1.059 billion, compared with US$1.243 billion in the previous year.

  Ecolab has net sales of US$11.79 billion in 2020 and US$12.562 billion in 2019. The net loss for the year was US$1.205 billion, and the net profit of the previous year was US$1.558 billion.

  Eastman Chemical Company's sales revenue in 2020 was 8.473 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2019 it was 9.273 billion U.S. dollars. The net profit for the year was US$478 million, and the net profit of the previous year was US$759 million.

  Huntsman Corp's 2020 revenue was 6.018 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2019 it was 6.797 billion U.S. dollars. The net profit for the year was US$1.066 billion, and the net profit of the previous year was US$598 million.

   Celanese announced the 2020 fourth quarter and full year results. Net sales in the fourth quarter were US$1.591 billion, compared with US$1.411 billion in the same period last year. Net profit for the quarter was US$1.454 billion, compared with US$209 million in the same period last year. Net sales in 2020 were 5.655 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2019 it was 6.297 billion U.S. dollars. The net profit for the year was US$1.992 billion, compared with US$858 million in the previous year.

  International Flavors & Fragrances has net sales of US$5.084 billion in 2020 and US$5.14 billion in 2019. The annual net profit was 363 million U.S. dollars, compared with 455 million U.S. dollars the previous year.

   Axalta Coating Systems has net sales of US$3.737 billion in 2020 and US$4.482 billion in 2019. The net profit for the year was US$121 million, compared with US$249 million in the previous year.

  Corteva, Inc.'s net sales in 2020 were 14.217 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2019 it was 13.846 billion U.S. dollars. The annual net profit was US$681 million, and the net loss of the previous year was US$959 million.

   Mosaic Company's net sales in 2020 were 8.681 billion U.S. dollars, and in 2019 it was 8.906 billion U.S. dollars. The net profit for the year was US$666 million and the net loss of the previous year was US$1.067 billion.

  Nutrien's 2020 fiscal year net profit attributable to common shareholders of the parent company was US$459 million, a year-on-year decrease of 53.73%; operating income was US$20.908 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.42%.

 

Asia and Africa

   Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) has revenue of 116.955 billion riyals (approximately US$31.2 billion) in 2020. In 2019, it was 135.396 billion riyals. The annual net profit was 1.242 billion riyals, compared with 6.603 billion rials last year.

   Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation (Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation) announced the results of the first three quarters of fiscal 2020 (April-December) as of December 31. The current sales revenue was 2,355.4 billion yen (approximately 21.6 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 2,730.7 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit for the current period was 728 million yen, compared with 160.5 billion yen in the same period last year. The net loss attributable to shareholders of the parent company for the current period was 47.8 billion yen, compared with a net profit of 76.2 billion yen in the same period last year.

   South Korea's LG Chem (LG Chem) released its consolidated financial report for fiscal year 2020, showing that its net profit was 1.0864 trillion won, 2.9 times that of the previous fiscal year. Consolidated sales for fiscal 2020 increased by 10% year-on-year to 30.0575 trillion won (approximately 26.8 billion U.S. dollars). Operating profit increased 2.9 times to 2.3532 trillion won.

   Hengli Petrochemical announced that the company achieved total revenue of 152.37 billion yuan (approximately US$23.3 billion) in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 51.19%, and net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 13.46 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 34.28%.

  Sumitomo Chemical (Sumitomo Chemical) announced the results of the first three quarters of fiscal 2020 (April-December) as of December 31. The current sales revenue was 1,642.6 billion yen (approximately 15.8 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 1,650.7 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit for the current period was 116.6 billion yen, compared with 112.7 billion yen in the same period last year. The net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company for the current period was 21.9 billion yen, compared with 211.9 billion yen in the same period last year.

   Asahi Kasei Corporation (Asahi Kasei Corporation) announced its results for the first three quarters of fiscal 2020 (April-December) as of December 31. Net sales for the current period were 1,536.6 billion yen (approximately US$14.1 billion), compared with 1,588.5 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit for the current period was 129.5 billion yen, compared with 140.2 billion yen in the same period last year. The net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company for the current period was 79.9 billion yen, compared with 103.8 billion yen in the same period last year.

   Toray Industries, Inc. announced its results for the first three quarters of fiscal 2020 (April-December) as of December 31. The current revenue was 1,3644.2 billion yen (approximately 12.5 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 1,5865 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit for the current period was 36.1 billion yen, compared with 99.3 billion yen in the same period last year. Net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company for the current period was 27.8 billion yen, compared with 74.9 billion yen in the same period last year.

   Rongsheng Petrochemical released its 2020 annual report. The company achieved operating income of 107.265 billion yuan (approximately US$16.4 billion) in 2020, an increase of 30.02% year-on-year; net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 7.309 billion yuan, an increase of 231.17% year-on-year.

  Sasol announced its results for the second half of 2020. The current group turnover was 104.1 billion South African Rand (approximately 7.18 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 111.8 billion Rand in the same period last year. The group's pre-interest and tax profit for the current period was 21.65 billion rand, compared with 9.85 billion rand in the same period last year.

  Shin-Etsu Chemical (Shin-Etsu Chemical) announced its results for the first three quarters of fiscal 2020 (April-December) as of December 31. Net sales for the current period were 10904 billion yen (approximately 10 billion U.S. dollars), compared with 1,174 billion yen in the same period last year. Operating profit for the current period was 285 billion yen, compared with 318.7 billion yen in the same period last year. The net profit attributable to shareholders of the parent company for the current period was 213.3 billion yen, compared with 246.8 billion yen in the same period last year.

   Zhongtai Chemical disclosed its annual report. In 2020, the company achieved total operating income of 84.2 billion yuan (approximately US$12.9 billion), an increase of 1.3% year-on-year; net profit attributable to the parent company was 150 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 61.9%.

   Wanhua Chemical announced that its operating income in 2020 was 73.433 billion yuan (approximately 11.2 billion US dollars), an increase of 7.91% year-on-year, and the net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies was 10.041 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 0.87%.

   Lotte Chemical's 2020 revenue was 12,234.6 billion won (approximately 10.9 billion U.S. dollars), a decrease of 19.1% from 2019. The annual operating profit was 353.3 billion won, a decrease of 68.1% from the previous year.

   NIPPON PAINT HOLDINGS has revenue of 781.1 billion yen (approximately US$7.18 billion) in 2020, and 692 billion yen in 2019. The operating profit for the year was 86.9 billion yen, compared with 78 billion yen in the previous year. The net profit for the year was 44.6 billion yen, compared with 36.7 billion yen in the previous year.
