PepsiCo Pakistan Launches Local Flavor Production to Boost Self-Reliance and Economic Growth

ECHEMI 2025-02-25

PepsiCo Pakistan is making significant strides in the country’s food industry with the launch of a state-of-the-art local production facility for flavorings that meets the highest global standards. This milestone was achieved through a collaboration with Kerry, a global leader in taste and nutrition, alongside their strategic local partner, Far Eastern Impex (FEI).

This initiative is expected to enhance local manufacturing capabilities, strengthen the food value chain, and contribute positively to Pakistan’s economic landscape. By fostering knowledge sharing and capability building within the local food industry, PepsiCo aims to create numerous job opportunities across manufacturing, research and development, and supply chain functions.

The rapid growth of Pakistan’s food sector, driven by increasing consumer demand and urbanization, positions the country as a key player in the regional food supply chain. By localizing flavor production, PepsiCo not only meets local needs but also sets the stage for potential future exports.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including the Ambassador of Ireland to Pakistan Her Excellency Mary O’Neill and the US Consul General in Karachi Scott Urbom, among other esteemed guests from PepsiCo and Kerry.

“Localization is at the heart of PepsiCo’s long-term strategy in Pakistan,” stated Ahmed El Sheikh, President and General Manager of MENAPAK Foods at PepsiCo. He emphasized that this initiative transforms not only PepsiCo Pakistan but also serves as a powerful example for the broader MENAPAK region.

PepsiCo’s localization efforts encompass the entire value chain, from developing specialized high-yield potato variants at Pakistan’s largest private tissue culture lab to their cultivation, processing, and export. This ensures a 100% sustainable, locally integrated potato supply chain, further solidifying PepsiCo's commitment to the region's economic and agricultural development.
