Taiwan FDA Issues Warning Over Contaminated Banana Chips Batch from Indonesia Urgent Recall Action Required

On March 18, 2025, the Taiwan Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a list of non-compliant foods at its borders, revealing that a batch of banana chips from Indonesia was found to have illegally added sweeteners.

The report identifies the manufacturer or exporter as GALEN SNACK, with the Taiwanese importer being Hsiang Yen Co., Ltd. The batch of banana chips tested positive for cyclohexylsulfamic acid at a level of 0.02 g/kg. According to the "Standards for the Use and Limits of Food Additives," the product does not meet the criteria set forth in Article 18 of the Food Safety and Sanitation Management Act.

A total of 84.00 kilograms of the non-compliant product has been either returned or destroyed to prevent any health risks.

Food safety authorities are urging domestic importers to remain vigilant and closely monitor relevant information to avoid importing non-compliant products. This incident highlights the importance of regulatory compliance to ensure consumer safety in the food supply chain.
