Guangan Hongyuan plans to build 300,000 tons of PBAT and 200,000 tons of PBS projects

Sichuan Guang'an Ecological Environment Bureau accepted and publicized the "300,000 tons/year PBAT and 200,000 tons/year PBS project environmental impact report" of Guangan Hongyuan Technology Co., Ltd. in April 2021.

According to public information, Guangan Hongyuan Technology's 300,000-ton PBAT and 200,000-ton PBS project has a total investment of about 800 million yuan, which will be constructed in two phases. The first phase investment is about 300 million yuan. It is planned to renovate the idle polyphenylene sulfide resin device in the plant area, build a 2×50,000 tons/year PBAT production device and supporting public auxiliary, environmental protection projects, etc., and form an annual production capacity of 100,000 tons of PBAT . The second phase investment is about 500 million yuan to build a new 4×50,000 tons/year PBAT, 4×50,000 tons/year PBS production equipment and supporting public auxiliary, environmental protection projects, etc., forming an annual output of 200,000 tons of PBAT and 200,000 tons of PBS Production capacity.

The production of PBAT adopts the process technology independently developed by Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Company to produce PBAT by esterification. The project uses purified terephthalic acid (PTA), 1,4-butanediol (BDO), and adipic acid (AA) as raw materials. Under the action of a catalyst, terephthalic acid and adipic acid are combined with 1,4- Butylene glycol undergoes esterification reaction to produce polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and poly-1,4-butane adipate (PBA), which are then polycondensed to produce polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) Butylene glycol ester (PBAT).

The production of PBS also adopts the technology of Beijing Petrochemical Engineering Company. Direct esterification is used for melt polycondensation. Under the action of a catalyst, succinic acid (SA) and 1,4-butanediol are esterified and melt polycondensed to form polybutylene succinate (PBS).

The steam, deionized water and nitrogen used in the proposed project rely on the neighboring Jiuyuan Chemical Company. The THF-containing waste water produced during the production process is sent to the saturation tower of the methanol reformer of the natural gas-to-methanol plant of Guang'an Lu Te'an Natural Gas Chemical Co., Ltd., as make-up water, to realize the comprehensive utilization of resources. The recycling of 1,4-butanediol in the production process not only reduces pollution, but also further saves resources.

Guang'an Meiyuan Chemical Company and Guang'an Lu Te'an Natural Gas Chemical Company are both wholly-owned subsidiaries of Meiyuan Chemical (Group) Co., Ltd. in Guang'an. Due to business development needs, the group company established Guang'an Hongyuan Chemical Co., Ltd., and leased the factory buildings, machinery and related auxiliary facilities of Guang'an Meiyuan Chemical Company and Guang'an Road Te'an Natural Gas Chemical Company to Guang'an Hongyuan Chemical Co., Ltd. for production and operation Therefore, the nitrogen, desalinated water, steam supply agreement and wastewater utilization agreement for the 300,000 tons/year PBAT and 200,000 tons/year PBS project of Guangan Hongyuan Technology Co., Ltd. were signed by Guangan Hongyuan Chemical Co., Ltd.
