Over 2.6 Million Tons of Capacity to Pause Wanhua Chemical Launches Major Maintenance and Upgrades in June

ECHEMI 2025-05-26

Wanhua Chemical is set to halt production across multiple high-capacity units in June, as it initiates both scheduled maintenance and strategic upgrades. The temporary shutdown will impact over 2.6 million tons of annual production, signaling a significant short-term supply shift across several key chemicals.

At the Fujian Industrial Park, operations will be suspended starting June 5, 2025, affecting the 800,000 tons/year MDI unit, 360,000 tons/year TDI unit, and 400,000 tons/year PVC unit. These planned inspections, lasting approximately 45 days, aim to ensure operational safety and maintain long-term efficiency in line with industry standards.

Meanwhile, a technological revamp is scheduled for the 1 million tons/year Ethylene Phase I unit at the Yantai Industrial Park, beginning June 3, 2025. This upgrade, expected to span five months, is part of Wanhua’s broader strategy to diversify feedstock sources and enhance production flexibility. To mitigate supply disruptions, the site’s 1.2 million tons/year Ethylene Phase II unit will continue running throughout the process.

This combined maintenance and transformation plan underscores Wanhua’s focus on safety, innovation, and long-term competitiveness, though short-term availability of several key materials may be affected. Industry stakeholders are closely watching the development, especially amid tight global chemical supply chains.
