Narrow Downward Adjustment in Soda Ash Market This Week (9.22-9.28)
September 29, News
I. Price Trends
According to the commodity analysis system, the average market price of light soda ash on September 28 was 1,186 CNY per ton, down from 1,188 CNY per ton on September 22—a price decrease of 0.17%.
II. Market Analysis
This week, the soda ash market saw a slight downward trend. Before the holiday, downstream demand followed up with necessary replenishment, and the shipments of soda ash enterprises improved; on the supply side, inventories of enterprises decreased significantly within the week, but due to increased production and accumulation of delivery warehouse stocks, the overall market inventory showed an upward trend. The total inventory of soda ash was not significantly reduced, limiting the room for price increases. Under the pressure of supply, the transaction prices of some soda ash were adjusted downwards.
On the demand side: According to the commodity analysis system, glass prices experienced a significant increase this week. As of September 28, the average market price reached 15.43 yuan per square meter, representing a 7.90% rise compared to the price of 14.30 CNY per ton on September 22. On the 24th, China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology held a regular industry seminar for the glass sector, which helped boost both spot and futures glass prices. Meanwhile, downstream industries—typically entering their peak season—are replenishing supplies according to demand, leading to improved trading activity in the market. Consequently, inventory levels have declined, further fueling the strong upward momentum in glass prices.
The forecast for the future market indicates that the current Chinese soda ash spot market is relatively stable, with suppliers' inventory volume remaining high. Enterprises are actively shipping goods, and the strong performance of the downstream glass market provides some support to the mentality of the soda ash market. Trading within the market is still acceptable, and it is expected that the short-term soda ash market will stabilize and operate steadily. Specific attention should be paid to the market's shipping situation.
