ECHEMI 2026-05-28

May 27 News:

I. Price Trends

According to the commodity market analysis system: On May 27, 2026, the average price of quasi-first grade metallurgical coke was 1,733 CNY/ton. The fourth round of price increases (50-60 yuan) has been fully implemented, with a cumulative increase of over 200 yuan. Currently, coal mine safety inspections in Shanxi are becoming stricter, and there are more production halts, leading to a tight supply that supports the spot market.

2. Market Analysis

Market Trading: Steel mill profits are under pressure, and there is an increase in blast furnace maintenance. Demand is weak, and futures have retreated from their highs. The coke market is expected to remain strong in the short term. Port inventory is 1330,000 tons, a slight increase from the previous period, and inventory pressure is becoming evident. In terms of raw materials, after an accident at the Liushen Valley coal mine in Shanxi, many coal mines across the province have halted operations. Coal mines in Shaanxi have also stopped production, with most shutdowns lasting around 3-5 days, and the area of shutdowns is expanding. Safety inspections at production sites are becoming stricter, and supply is expected to tighten in the short term.

III. Future Market Forecast

Coke analysts believe: The downstream sector is mainly purchasing according to demand. In the short term, coking coal prices may fluctuate and trend stronger. Regarding Mongolian coal imports, quotations are trending stronger. Currently, coke enterprises in China have decent profits, with stable operations, ensuring a steady supply of coke. The inventory of coke within these enterprises is currently running at low levels.
