Pfizer Recalls Some Antihypertensive Drugs Due to Excessive Levels of Carcinogens

According to a report by Fox News on April 25, Pfizer announced a recall of five batches of its blood pressure drug Accupril after it was found to have excessive levels of nitrosamines, a potential carcinogen in its blood pressure drug.

It is understood that the recalled drugs were sold in the United States and its overseas territory Puerto Rico from December 2019 to April 2022. No reports of adverse reactions to the drug have been received so far. At the same time, for the same reason, Pfizer Canada announced a recall of all batches of Accupril. Pfizer said patients taking the drug are not at immediate risk, but long-term overdose can increase cancer risk.

Last month, Pfizer also recalled some batches of another antihypertensive drug, Accuretic (quinapril hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide tablets) because it may contain carcinogens. According to statistics, in the past five years, Pfizer has issued more than ten recall notices across the United States, involving nearly 20 drugs.
