Beriberi
Beriberi is a vitamin B1 deficiency disease. Vitamin B1, namely thiamine, is the precursor of thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP). TPP is an important coenzyme for the decarboxylation reaction of pyruvate and α-ketoglutarate in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and is also a coenzyme for erythrocyte ketol transferase. In addition, it also has a certain relationship with brain cell activity and nerve impulse conduction. Once it is deficient, it can cause a series of nervous system and circulatory system symptoms, which is called beriberi.
