Congenital defect of diaphragm
Congenital Defect of the Diaphragm is often seen at the thoracoperitoneal hiatus, while parasternal hiatus defects are extremely rare. The discussion of abdominal viscera passing through the defect focuses on thoracoperitoneal hiatus defects. Bochdalek first reported it in 1848. It is more common in infants and young children, and more common in males than in females. The incidence rate accounts for 1/4000 of live births, 90% of which are on the left side. The right side is less likely to develop the disease because it is protected by the liver or the right side of the diaphragm closes earlier than the left side during the embryonic period.
