Glioblastoma
Glioblastoma is the most malignant glioma among astrocytic tumors and is classified as WHO grade IV. The tumor is located under the cortex and grows in an invasive manner. It often invades several lobes of the brain and deep structures, and can also spread to the contralateral cerebral hemisphere through the corpus callosum. The most common site of occurrence is the frontal lobe, followed by the temporal lobe/parietal lobe, and a few can be seen in the occipital lobe/thalamus and basal ganglia. Glioblastoma can originate in the brain parenchyma or be secondary. Most secondary glioblastomas are further malignant transformations of anaplastic astrocytomas, and a small number can evolve from mixed gliomas, oligodendrogliomas or ependymomas.
