Retroperitoneal infection and abscess
Retroperitoneal infection and abscess are relatively rare. Common pathogens are Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris, Clostridium perfringens and Streptococcus. Occasionally, anaerobic bacteria, tuberculosis, Brucella, actinomycetes and ameba are caused. The extraperitoneal space is less reactive to bacterial infection, and it is not easy to detect during physical examination, making diagnosis more difficult.
