Sterile crystalline sulfonamide
Function and Efficacy
This product is a sulfonamide antibiotic. It is similar to para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) in structure and can compete with PABA on dihydrofolate synthase in bacteria, thereby preventing PABA from synthesizing folic acid required by bacteria as a raw material, reducing the amount of metabolically active tetrahydrofolate, which is an essential substance for bacteria to synthesize purine, thymidine and deoxyribonucleic acid, thus inhibiting the growth and reproduction of bacteria. It has a wide antibacterial spectrum and has antibacterial effects on gram-positive and negative bacteria such as hemolytic streptococci, Neisseria meningitidis, and Staphylococcus.
Ingredients
Its chemical name is p-aminobenzenesulfonamide. The chemical structure is: Molecular formula: C6H8O2N2S Molecular weight: 172.20

Appearance
This product is white or slightly yellow crystalline particles; it changes color gradually when exposed to light.
Indication
Used for traumatic infections caused by hemolytic streptococci and staphylococci.
Usage and Dosage
For external use. Sprinkle on the affected area. Appropriate amount.
Adverse Reactions
After the product is absorbed from the wound surface, its adverse reactions are the same as those of systemic application of sulfonamides. When the wound surface is extensive and the dosage is large, the absorption amount increases, which may also produce more serious adverse reactions, mainly including: allergic reactions, kidney and liver damage, neutropenia or deficiency, thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia and hyperbilirubinemia and other blood system diseases, nausea, vomiting and other gastrointestinal reactions.
Precautions
It is contraindicated for people who are allergic to sulfonamides, pregnant women, lactating women, infants under 2 months old, and patients with impaired liver and kidney function.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: It is forbidden for newborns and infants under 2 months old. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: It is forbidden for pregnant women and lactating women. Precautions for the elderly: Elderly patients have an increased chance of serious adverse reactions when using sulfonamides. For example, severe rash, bone marrow suppression and thrombocytopenia are common serious adverse reactions in the elderly. Therefore, elderly patients should avoid using it, and when there is an indication, the decision should be made after weighing the pros and cons.
Drug Interactions
This product can be absorbed from the local part, and its drug interaction is the same as that of systemic sulfonamide drugs. 1 When used in combination with urine alkalinizing drugs, the solubility of this product in alkaline urine can be increased, resulting in increased excretion. 2 It cannot be used in combination with PABA, as PABA can replace this product for bacterial uptake, and the two are mutually antagonistic. It is also not suitable to be used in combination with local anesthetics containing para-aminobenzoyl such as procaine, benzocaine, tetracaine, etc. 3 When used in combination with oral anticoagulants, oral hypoglycemic drugs, methotrexate, phenytoin sodium and thiopental sodium, the above drugs need to adjust the dosage, because this product can replace the protein binding sites of these drugs, or inhibit their metabolism, resulting in prolonged drug action time or toxic reactions. 4 When used in combination with bone marrow suppressive drugs, the potential adverse reactions of such drugs may be enhanced. If there is an indication for the combination of two types of drugs, possible adverse reactions should be closely observed. 5 Long-term use with contraceptives (estrogens) can reduce the reliability of contraception and increase the chance of extramenstrual bleeding. 6. When used in combination with thrombolytic drugs, the potential toxic effects may be increased. 7. When used in combination with hepatotoxic drugs, the incidence of hepatotoxicity may increase. Such patients, especially those who have been taking the drug for a long time and have a history of liver disease, should be closely monitored. 8. When used in combination with photosensitizing drugs, photosensitivity may be additive. 9. Patients receiving this product have an increased need for vitamin K. 10. It should not be used in combination with methenamine, because methenamine can decompose in acidic urine to produce formaldehyde, which can form insoluble precipitates with this product, increasing the risk of crystalluria. 11. This product can replace the plasma protein binding site of phenylbutazone, and the combination of the two can increase the effect of phenylbutazone. 12. Because this product may interfere with the bactericidal effect of penicillins, it is best to avoid using it at the same time with such drugs. 13. When sulfinpyrazone is used in combination with this product, it can reduce the secretion of this product from the renal tubules, and its blood concentration increases and lasts for a long time, thereby producing toxic reactions. Therefore, the dose of this product may need to be adjusted during or after the application of sulfinpyrazone.
