Syphilitic cardiovascular disease
Syphilitic cardiovascular disease is a cardiovascular disease caused by the late (third) stage of the invasion of Treponema pallidum into the human body and involving the cardiovascular system. It includes syphilitic aortitis, syphilitic aortic valve insufficiency, syphilitic aortic aneurysm, coronary artery stenosis and myocardial gumma. Most syphilis is acquired, while congenital syphilis is rare. Although cardiovascular syphilis is rare at present, it still exists. The disease progresses slowly, starting 10 to 25 years (5 years at the fastest and 40 years at the slowest) after the first infection with syphilis. Most patients are between 35 and 50 years old, with a male-to-female ratio of 4:1 to 5:1.
