Acute phlegmon
Acute cellulitis is an acute diffuse purulent infection of the subcutaneous, subfascial, intermuscular or deep cellular tissue. Its characteristics are that the lesions are not easily localized, spread rapidly, and have no obvious boundaries with normal tissues. Inflammation can be caused by infection after skin or soft tissue injury, or by direct spread of local purulent infection foci through lymphatic and bloodstream transmission. Acute cellulitis caused by hemolytic streptococci, due to the action of streptokinase and hyaluronidase, the lesions spread rapidly and can sometimes cause sepsis. Cellulitis caused by Staphylococcus is more easily confined to abscesses.
