Transverse dystocia
Transverse dystocia refers to an abnormal fetal position during delivery, which can easily lead to dystocia. Transverse delivery is a type of abnormal fetal position. The longitudinal axis of the fetus crosses the longitudinal axis of the mother at right angles or vertically; sometimes the longitudinal axis of the fetus is not completely vertical to the longitudinal axis of the mother and forms an acute angle or oblique position, which is called oblique position. The fetus lies horizontally on the pelvic inlet, with the shoulder as the first exposed part, the fetal head on one side of the mother, and the buttocks on the other side. It may be temporary and finally turn into a longitudinal or transverse position. In transverse delivery, the fetal shoulder is located at the pelvic inlet, and the fetal head and buttocks are located on one side of the iliac concave. Therefore, the fetal shoulder presentation is also called shoulder presentation. According to the position of the fetal scapula in front and back of the mother and the fetal head on the left and right sides of the mother, there are four types called left shoulder anterior, left shoulder posterior or right shoulder anterior, right shoulder posterior. Full-term transverse delivery cannot be delivered vaginally, which poses a great threat to the lives of mother and child. It should be diagnosed and treated early, and selective cesarean section can be performed.
