Apical periodontitis includes acute and chronic apical periodontitis. Apical periodontitis refers to inflammation of the periodontal tissues confined to the apex, including cementum, periodontal ligament and alveolar bone. Pathologically, it is divided into serous and suppurative apical periodontitis.
