Bone and joint tuberculosis
Bone and joint tuberculosis is caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis invading the human body through the respiratory tract or digestive tract to form a primary focus. The tuberculosis bacteria enter the lymphatic and blood vessels at the primary focus and spread to various organs throughout the body, especially the reticuloendothelial system including bones and joints. Most of the spread foci are eliminated by phagocytes, while a very small number of spreads remain latent. Once the body's resistance is reduced, the tuberculosis bacteria in the latent infection focus multiply, break through the surrounding tissues and cause disease.
