Periodic hyperkalemic paralysis in children
Periodic paralysis is a group of metabolic diseases related to potassium ion metabolism. It is characterized by repeated, self-limited attacks of skeletal muscle flaccid paralysis or weakness, which lasts for hours to weeks, and is completely normal during the intervals between attacks. According to the changes in blood potassium during the attack, it can be divided into three types: hypokalemic, hyperkalemic, and normokalemic. This disease is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. Hyperkalemic periodic paralysis is also known as hereditary episodic asthenia (adynamia episodica hereditaria).
