Colonic vascular ectasia
Colonic vascular ectasia is a general term for a group of colonic vascular malformations, which are composed of benign non-neoplastic dilated vascular plexuses. It is also called colonic vascular dysplasia, colonic vascular ectasia, and colonic arteriovenous malformation. In 1960, Margulis first confirmed the existence of colonic vascular ectasia through mesenteric arteriovenography, and related reports have gradually increased since then. In recent years, it has been found that this disease is one of the main causes of lower gastrointestinal bleeding, especially in elderly patients, accounting for about 4% of all causes of lower gastrointestinal bleeding. With the widespread use of fiber colonoscopy, there are more and more reports on colonic vascular ectasia in patients with cirrhosis and portal hypertension. Chen et al. reported that about 50% of patients with portal hypertension have colonic vascular ectasia.
