Steroid 5α-reductase 2 deficiency syndrome
Abnormalities in any step of the androgen action process in target cells can cause incomplete expression of androgen effects and male pseudohermaphroditism. The androgen action process includes testosterone being reduced to DHT by steroid 5α-reductase 2, the binding of testosterone and DHT to androgen receptor (AR), and the localization and transcription of androgen-receptor complex in hormone response elements. There are two main types of androgen resistance syndrome: one is abnormal testosterone metabolism in target cells, namely steroid 5α-reductase 2 deficiency syndrome; the other is AR abnormality, including testicular feminization and Reifenstein syndrome.
