Amebic vaginitis
Amebic vaginitis is mostly caused by amoebic pathogens that are excreted with the stool and directly infect the vulva or vagina. It is rare for amoebic pathogens to directly invade the vagina, but if the general condition is poor or the vaginal mucosal epithelial cells are damaged, amoebic trophozoites can invade the damaged area and cause inflammation. After the protozoa invade the vaginal mucosa, they rely on their pseudopodia and the tissue lytic enzymes they secrete to cause mucosal necrosis and form ulcers. Patients with low body resistance can also invade the vulva, cervix and endometrium and cause inflammation.
