Juvenile chronic arthritis and associated uveitis
Juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA) is a common idiopathic arthritis that occurs in children under 16 years old, usually affecting the knees, ankles, wrists and other joints. It was originally called Still's disease. In American literature, it is usually called juvenile rheumatoid arthritis (JRA), but about 90% of patients with this type of arthritis are negative for rheumatoid factor, so it is obviously inappropriate to call it "rheumatoid arthritis." The European League Against Rheumatism calls it "juvenile chronic arthritis," which basically reflects the characteristics of the disease. Uveitis caused or associated with this disease is a common and important blinding eye disease in children and adolescents.
