Multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome (MENS) is a group of dominant hereditary diseases with obvious familial tendency. Multiple endocrine glands develop tumors and can produce multiple hormones or hormone-like substances that are the same or duplicated with the glands, thus causing extremely complex and variable endocrine symptoms. Type II is characterized by the coexistence of medullary thyroid carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, and hyperparathyroidism, and is also called Sipples syndrome.
