Niemann-Pick disease
Niemann-Pick disease (NPD), also known as sphingomyelin lipidosis, is a rare congenital lipid metabolism disorder. It is characterized by a large number of foam cells containing sphingomyelin in all mononuclear macrophages and the nervous system. It is an autosomal recessive inheritance, with a high incidence in Jewish people, and the incidence rate is as high as 1/25,000. There are at least five types.
