Blepharospasm-oromanbular dystonia is also known as Meige’s syndrome or Brueghel syndrome. It is a group of syndromes of unknown cause, mainly manifested by spasms of both eyelids and involuntary movements of facial dystonia. French scholar Heury Meige (1910) first described a group of cases. This disease is dystonia, with paroxysmal tonic contractions of the affected muscle groups, presenting as spasms for seconds to minutes, and then spreading to other parts. Although electrophysiological and MRI studies have speculated that this disease may be related to the midbrain and basal ganglia, the exact cause is still unknown. Some people believe that certain sedatives can also cause the occurrence of this disease.
