Silymarin Capsules

Function and Efficacy

This product is used for the treatment of liver diseases. Pharmacology: It has been shown that silymarin can neutralize poisoning caused by muscimol, α-amanitin (a toxic substance found in the fungus Amanita phalloides), carbon tetrachloride, galactosamine, thioacetamide and hepatovirus FV3 in various toxic liver damage pathological models. The efficacy of silymarin is attributed to its several action points and mechanisms: Due to its ability to capture free radicals, silymarin has antioxidant activity. The pathophysiological process of lipid peroxidation (causing damage to cell membranes) can be interrupted or prevented by silymarin. And in already damaged liver cells, silymarin stimulates protein synthesis and normalizes phospholipid metabolism. In short, the greatest contribution of silymarin is its stabilizing effect on liver cell membranes, which prevents or avoids the loss of dissolved cell components (such as transaminases). Silymarin can limit the penetration of certain hepatotoxic substances (such as α-amanitin) into the cell interior. The enhancement of protein synthesis capacity is due to silymarin stimulating the activity of RNA polymerase I in the cell nucleus, thus helping the synthesis of ribosome RNA in liver cells, while leading to the massive synthesis of structural and functional proteins (enzymes). Therefore, silymarin can enhance the repair and regeneration capacity of liver cells.
