Cefoxitin Sodium for Injection

Function and Efficacy

Cefoxitin Sodium for Injection kills bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, and due to its structural characteristics, it has a high resistance to β-lactamase produced by bacteria. Some common clinical Gram-positive, Gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic pathogens are highly sensitive to this product. Cefoxitin Sodium for Injection is resistant to Pseudomonas aeruginosa, most strains of Enterococcus, and Escherichia coli.

Ingredients

The main ingredient of this product is cefoxitin sodium, and its other scientific name is: (6R,7S)-3-carbamoyloxymethyl-7-methoxy-8-oxo-7-[2(2-thienyl)acetylamino]-5-thia-1-azabicyclo-[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic acid sodium salt.

Intravenous injection: Mild to moderate infection: 1-2g each time dissolved in sterile saline or 10-20mL of 5% glucose injection solution and slowly injected intravenously within 4-6 minutes. Intravenous drip: Severe infection: daily dose can be increased to 6-8g, dissolved in sterile saline, 5-10% glucose solution, dextran solution, compound amino acid solution and M/6 sodium lactate solution for intravenous drip in 3-4 times, and the drip should be completed within half an hour. Dosage for renal insufficiency: For patients with renal insufficiency, the dosage regimen is formulated according to their creatinine clearance: for patients with creatinine clearance of 30-50mL/min, use 1-2g every 8-12 hours; for patients with creatinine clearance of 10-29mL/min, use 1-2g every 12-24 hours; for patients with creatinine clearance of 5-9mL/min, use 0.5-1g every 12-24 hours; for patients with creatinine clearance of less than 5mL/min, use 0.5-1g every 24-48 hours.

Adverse Reactions

The adverse reactions of cefoxitin sodium are generally temporary and reversible. The main adverse reactions are: 1. Occasionally, gastrointestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and constipation occur. 2. Drug Interactions

1. When cefoxitin sodium is used in combination with aminoglycoside antibiotics, it has a synergistic antibacterial effect, but the combination will increase nephrotoxicity. 2. When cefoxitin sodium is used in combination with strong diuretics such as furosemide, it can increase nephrotoxicity. 3. When cefoxitin sodium is used in combination with probenecid, it can delay the excretion of this product, increase the blood concentration of cefoxitin and prolong its half-life. 4. Cefoxitin sodium can affect alcohol metabolism, increase the concentration of acetaldehyde in the blood, and lead to disulfiram-like reactions (facial flushing, headache, dizziness, abdominal pain, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, shortness of breath, increased heart rate, decreased blood pressure, as well as drowsiness, hallucinations, etc.).
