Appearance
This product is an enteric-coated capsule, and the contents are white crystalline powder.
Indication
It is used for patients with type 2 diabetes who are not satisfied with diet control alone, especially obese patients. It not only has the effect of lowering blood sugar, but also may have the effect of reducing weight. It is effective for some cases where sulfonylureas are ineffective. If used in combination with sulfonylurea hypoglycemic drugs, it has a synergistic effect, which is better than the effect of each alone.
Usage and Dosage
Oral administration, half an hour before meals. Adults start with 0.25g at a time, 2 to 3 times a day. The dose can be adjusted based on blood sugar and urine sugar levels. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 2g, or follow the doctor's advice.
Adverse Reactions
1. Some patients experience gastrointestinal reactions after taking the tablets, which include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, and a metallic taste in the mouth. Enteric-coated capsules can alleviate the above adverse reactions to varying degrees. 2. Sometimes there is weakness, fatigue, weight loss, dizziness, and rash.
Precautions
1. It is contraindicated for patients with type 2 diabetes accompanied by ketosis, acidosis, liver and kidney dysfunction, heart failure, respiratory failure, acute myocardial infarction, severe infection and trauma, major surgery, and clinical hypotension and hypoxia. 2. It is contraindicated for patients who drink excessively, are dehydrated, have dysentery, are malnourished, and are allergic to this product and biguanides.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: The maximum daily dose of this product for patients with type 2 diabetes aged 10-16 years is 2000 mg. This product is not recommended for children under 10 years old. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: This product is not recommended for pregnant women. Lactating women should use this product with caution. If this product must be used, breastfeeding should be stopped. Precautions for the elderly: When elderly patients over 65 years old use metformin, they should be cautious and have their renal function checked regularly. The maximum dose is usually not used. This product is not recommended for patients over 80 years old unless the creatinine clearance test shows that renal function is not reduced.
Drug Interactions
1. This drug combined with insulin will enhance the hypoglycemic effect, and the insulin dose should be reduced. 2. It can enhance the anticoagulant effect of anticoagulants (such as warfarin), leading to bleeding tendency.
