Roxithromycin Capsules

Function and Efficacy

This product is a semi-synthetic 14-membered macrolide antibiotic. The antibacterial spectrum and antibacterial effect are basically similar to those of erythromycin. It is slightly less effective than erythromycin against Gram-positive bacteria, and stronger than erythromycin against Legionella pneumophila. The antimicrobial effect on Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, and Ureaplasma urealyticum is similar to or slightly stronger than that of erythromycin. This product can penetrate the bacterial cell membrane and reversibly bind to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome near the donor (P position), blocking the transfer of ribonucleic acid (t-RNA) to the P position, and also blocking the transfer of the polypeptide chain from the acceptor position (A position) to the P position, thereby inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. The natural products of 14-membered macrolides used clinically include: erythromycin and oleandomycin; semi-synthetic products include: erythromycin ethylsuccinate, erythromycin propionate, erythromycin ethylsuccinate, oleandomycin aldehyde, and the recent introduction of roxithromycin, clarithromycin, and dirithromycin.
