Ampicillin Granules
Function and Efficacy
The antibacterial effect on Gram-positive cocci and bacilli (including anaerobic bacteria) is basically the same as that of penicillin, and the effect on Enterococcus faecalis is stronger than that of penicillin. Among Gram-negative bacteria, Neisseria meningitidis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Haemophilus influenzae, Bordetella pertussis, Brucella, Proteus mirabilis, Salmonella, etc. are all sensitive to this product. Some Escherichia coli and some Shigella are also sensitive to this product, but most Shigella are resistant to this product. Other Enterobacteriaceae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacteroides fragilis, etc. are resistant to this product. This product has a certain antibacterial effect on Legionella and Campylobacter fetus. The mechanism of action of this product is to inhibit the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, causing the bacteria to rupture and dissolve rapidly.

Appearance
It is a white or off-white dry suspension or granule.
Indication
It is suitable for respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, digestive tract infections, ear, nose and throat infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and gonorrhea caused by sensitive pathogens.
Usage and Dosage
Oral administration. Rinse with cold boiled water to the 60 ml mark before taking, shake well before each serving, then pour into a special small cup and take according to the following dosage: Under 1 year old, 5 ml, 3 times; 1 to 3 years old, 10 ml, 3 times; 3 to 5 years old, 15 ml, 3 times; 5 to 10 years old, 20 ml, 3 times.
Adverse Reactions
The adverse reactions of this product are similar to those of penicillin, with allergic reactions being more common. Rash is the most common reaction, which usually occurs 5 days after medication, presenting as urticaria or maculopapular rash; interstitial nephritis may also occur; anaphylactic shock is occasionally seen. Gastrointestinal reactions such as glossitis, gastritis, nausea, vomiting, enteritis, diarrhea, and mild abdominal pain are also common. Granulocytopenia and thrombocytopenia are occasionally seen in patients taking ampicillin. Antibiotic-related enteritis is rare, and a small number of patients have elevated serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT).
Precautions
1. Use with caution in patients with a history of allergy to penicillin or those with a positive penicillin skin test. 2. Contraindicated in children under two years old.
Special Population Medication
Precautions for children: Children under 2 years old are prohibited from using this medicine. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: There are no strict controlled trials for the use of ampicillin in pregnant women, so pregnant women should use ampicillin granules only when necessary. A small amount of ampicillin can be secreted from breast milk, so breastfeeding should be suspended when breastfeeding women take this medicine. Precautions for the elderly: Due to the decline of biological renal function, the dosage should be appropriately reduced.
Drug Interactions
Ampicillin and kanamycin have synergistic antibacterial effects against Escherichia coli and Proteus. Ampicillin can stimulate estrogen metabolism or reduce its enterohepatic circulation, thereby reducing the effectiveness of oral contraceptives. Combination with allopurinol can increase the incidence of ampicillin rash, especially in hyperuricemia. When combined with chloramphenicol for bacterial meningitis, the incidence of long-term sequelae is higher than when either is used alone.
