Iodixanol

X-ray contrast agent. Used for cardiovascular angiography, cerebral angiography (conventional and i.a.DSA), peripheral artery angiography (conventional and i.a.DSA), abdominal angiography (conventional and i.a.DSA), urography, venography and CT-enhanced examination in adults; cardiovascular angiography, urography and CT-enhanced examination in children.

The dose depends on the type of examination, age, weight, cardiac output, and general condition of the patient and the technique used. The iodine concentration and dosage used are similar to those of other iodinated X-ray contrast agents in current use, but in some studies, adequate diagnostic information has been obtained using iodine injection with lower iodine concentrations. As with other contrast agents, adequate hydration should be maintained before and after administration.

The following have been reported during clinical trials: Most reported adverse reactions were mild. The most commonly reported were transient discomforts such as general heat, cold, or pain at the injection site. Nonionic monomeric contrast agents have less heat sensation than ionic contrast agents, and pain at the injection site occurs less frequently than ionic contrast agents. Transient side effects such as visual disturbances, headache, nausea, vomiting, and taste disturbances occasionally occur. Rash, urticaria, itching, parosmia, angioedema, and respiratory symptoms may also occur.

Patients with clear manifestations of thyrotoxicosis are contraindicated. Decompensated cardiac insufficiency.
