Function and Efficacy
Pharmacological experiments have shown that the main component of ephedra in this prescription is ephedrine, which has the effects of relieving asthma, sweating, diuresis, relaxing bronchial smooth muscles, and increasing pulmonary perfusion; the decoction of asarum, schisandra, and cassia twig also has a good effect on relieving asthma in isolated trachea. This prescription has antitussive and expectorant effects. Peony, schisandra, and asarum in the prescription can be used as expectorants; pinellia, dried ginger, and asarum can expel retained water in the trachea; licorice not only has a central antitussive effect, but also plays an antitussive role by improving pulmonary circulation and correcting intracellular dehydration. This prescription also has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and cooling effects.
