Cefazolin Sodium
Function and Efficacy
This product is a first-generation cephalosporin for injection. It has a better antibacterial effect on positive cocci than the second and third generations. It ranks first among the first-generation cephalosporins in terms of its effect on negative bacilli, but is inferior to the second generation, let alone the third generation. This product is unstable to the beta-lactamase produced by negative bacilli, and some negative bacilli are already resistant. It has no antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterobacter and anaerobic Bacteroides fragilis. The antibacterial spectrum is similar to that of cephalexin, and it has antibacterial effects on Staphylococci (including enzyme-producing strains), Streptococci (except Enterococci), Streptococcus pneumoniae, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella, Haemophilus influenzae and Enterobacter aerogenes. The characteristics of this product are that it has a stronger effect on Gram-negative bacteria and weaker resistance to the beta-lactamase of Staphylococci.
