It has high antibacterial activity against penicillin-resistant Neisseria gonorrhoeae, enzyme-producing Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella. Long-term and excessive use, after local absorption, can produce the same drug interactions as systemic medications, such as increasing the blood concentrations of drugs such as theophylline, cyclosporine, and probenecid, enhancing the anticoagulant effect of the anticoagulant warfarin, and interfering with the metabolism of caffeine.
