Function and Efficacy

Biapenem is a carbapenem antibiotic that exerts its antibacterial effect by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against gram-positive and gram-negative aerobic and anaerobic bacteria. Biapenem is stable to human renal dehydropeptidase I (DHP-I) and can be administered alone without the need for combination with DHP-I inhibitors.

Appearance

This product is white to slightly yellowish white crystalline powder.

Indication

The strains sensitive to this product include: Staphylococcus, Streptococcus, Pneumococcus, Enterococcus (except Enterococcus faecium), Moraxella, Escherichia coli, Citrobacter, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia, Proteus, Haemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Actinomyces, Peptostreptococcus, Bacteroides, Prevotella, Fusobacterium, etc. This product is suitable for the treatment of sepsis, pneumonia, lung abscess, secondary infection caused by chronic respiratory diseases, refractory cystitis, pyelonephritis, peritonitis, gynecological adnexitis, etc. caused by sensitive bacteria.

Usage and Dosage

Dissolve 0.3g of biapenem in 100ml of normal saline or glucose injection and drip intravenously. Adults take 0.6g per day, drip twice, 30 to 60 minutes each time. The dosage can be appropriately increased or decreased according to the patient's age and symptoms. However, the maximum daily dosage should not exceed 1.2g.

Adverse Reactions

According to foreign literature, the most common adverse reactions are rash/itching, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Among 2,348 cases, 64 cases (2.7%) had adverse reactions, mainly manifested as rash (1.0%), diarrhea (0.7%), etc. Among 2,287 cases, 304 cases (13.3%) had abnormal clinical test indicators of 522, mainly manifested as increased ALT (GPT) (144 cases, 6.3%), increased AST (GOT) (93 cases, 4.1%), and increased eosinophils (77 cases, 3.4%).
