Silymarin
Function and Efficacy
This product is a drug for the treatment of liver disease. Pharmacology: It has been shown that in various toxic liver damage pathological models, silymarin can neutralize poisoning caused by muscimol, α-amanitin (a toxic substance found in the Amanita phalloides fungus), carbon tetrachloride, galactosamine, thioacetamide and hepatovirus FV3. The therapeutic effect of silymarin is attributed to its several points of action and mechanisms of action: due to its ability to capture free radicals, silymarin has antioxidant activity. The pathophysiological process of lipid peroxidation (causing damage to cell membranes) can be interrupted or prevented by silymarin. And in already damaged liver cells, silymarin stimulates protein synthesis and normalizes phospholipid metabolism. In short, the greatest contribution of silymarin is its stabilizing effect on liver cell membranes, which prevents or avoids dissolution.
