Amoxicillin

Amoxicillin is a semi-synthetic broad-spectrum penicillin drug. Its antibacterial spectrum and antibacterial activity are basically the same as those of ampicillin, but its acid resistance is stronger than that of ampicillin. Its bactericidal effect is stronger and faster than that of the latter, but it cannot be used to treat meningitis. The half-life is about 61.3 minutes. Amoxicillin is stable under acidic conditions, and its gastrointestinal absorption rate reaches 90%, which is faster and more complete than that of ampicillin. Except for its poor effect on Shigella, the other effects are similar.

1. Symptoms of allergic reactions may include drug fever, urticaria, rash and asthma, which are especially prone to occur in patients with infectious mononucleosis. Anaphylactic shock is rare. 2. Blood system symptoms occasionally include eosinophilia, leukopenia, thrombocytopenia, anemia, etc. 4. Skin and mucous membrane reactions occasionally include maculopapular rash, exudative erythema multiforme, Lyell syndrome, and exfoliative dermatitis. 5. Liver and kidney dysfunction: A small number of patients occasionally have mild elevations in serum aminotransferase and acute interstitial nephritis after taking the drug. 6. A prospective study involving 51 pediatric patients suggested that amoxicillin doses not exceeding 250 mg/kg did not cause significant clinical symptoms. A small number of patients were reported to have renal insufficiency and oliguria due to overdose of amoxicillin, but renal damage was reversible after discontinuation of the drug.
