Pinellia has a significant antitussive effect on cough caused by iodine solution injected into the chest cavity of cats or electrical stimulation of the superior laryngeal nerve, and can last for more than 5 hours; the volatile oil contained in tangerine peel has an expectorant effect; Polygala contains saponins, which stimulate the gastric mucosa and reflexively promote bronchial secretion; asterone extracted from aster has an antitussive effect on cough caused by ammonia mist; platycodon saponins can significantly increase the secretion of respiratory mucus, and cause a certain degree of stimulation to the throat mucosa and gastric mucosa, reflexively causing hypersecretion of the respiratory mucosa, diluting the sputum and promoting its discharge. Glycyrrhizic acid also has a strong antitussive and expectorant effect. In addition, ephedra, tangerine peel, aster, licorice, etc. also have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects.
