This product is an anti-thyroid drug. Its mechanism of action is to inhibit thyroid peroxidase, thereby hindering the oxidation of iodide absorbed into the thyroid gland and the coupling of tyrosine, and hindering the synthesis of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). Animal experiments have observed that it can inhibit the synthesis of antibodies by B lymphocytes, reduce the level of thyroid stimulating antibodies in the blood circulation, and restore the function of inhibitory T cells to normal.

Indication

Antithyroid drugs. Suitable for various types of hyperthyroidism, especially for: 1 patients with mild disease and mild to moderate thyroid enlargement 2 adolescents, children and elderly patients 3 patients with recurrence after thyroid surgery who are not suitable for radioactive 131I treatment 4 preoperative preparation 5 as an adjuvant treatment for 131I radiotherapy.

Usage and Dosage

1 Adults: The starting dose is generally 30 mg (6 tablets) per day, which can be adjusted to 15-40 mg (3-8 tablets) according to the severity of the disease, and the maximum daily dose is 60 mg (12 tablets), taken orally in divided doses; after the disease is controlled, the dose is gradually reduced, and the daily maintenance dose is between 5-15 mg (1-3 tablets) according to the disease needs. The course of treatment is generally 18-24 months. 2 Children: The initial dose is 0.4 mg/kg per day, taken orally in divided doses. The maintenance dose is about half, depending on the disease.

Adverse Reactions

Common symptoms include rash or itchy skin and leukopenia; less common severe agranulocytosis; possible aplastic anemia; loss of taste, nausea, vomiting, upper abdominal discomfort, joint pain, dizziness, headache, vasculitis, and lupus erythematosus-like syndrome. Rarely, it may cause hepatitis, interstitial pneumonia, nephritis, and vasculitis involving the kidneys; rarely, it may cause thrombocytopenia, decreased prothrombin, or decreased factor VII.

Precautions

It is forbidden to use in breastfeeding women.

Special Population Medication

Precautions for children: The dosage for children should be adjusted according to the condition. The initial dosage is 0.4 mg/kg per day, taken orally in divided doses. The maintenance dose is determined by the condition. Thyroid tablets should be added as appropriate during medication to avoid hypothyroidism. Precautions for pregnancy and lactation: It is forbidden for lactating women. Precautions for the elderly: The dosage should be reduced for the elderly, especially those with renal impairment. If hypothyroidism is found, the dosage should be reduced or thyroid tablets should be added in time.

Drug Interactions

1. When used in combination with anticoagulants, it can enhance the anticoagulant effect. 2. Intake of high-iodine foods or drugs can aggravate hyperthyroidism, increase the amount of antithyroid drugs required or prolong the duration of medication. Therefore, avoid taking iodine before taking this product. 3. Sulfonamides, para-aminosalicylic acid, phenylbutazone, barbiturates, phentolamine, tolazoline, vitamin B12, sulfonylureas, etc. all have the effect of inhibiting thyroid function and thyroid enlargement, so be careful when using this product in combination.
