Description
White powder, insoluble in water, cold ethanol and ether, soluble in organic solvents such as hot benzene, benzene and turpentine, and slightly soluble in hot ethanol and ether. When heated to 400 ℃, it decomposes slowly and is combustible. It decomposes into stearic acid and the corresponding calcium salt when it meets strong acid. It is hygroscopic.
Used as a heat stabilizer for PVC and as a lubricant and mold release agent for various plastics processing. In hard products, the combination of basic lead salts and lead soap can increase the gelation rate. It is also used in food packaging, medical appliances and other soft films and appliances that require non-toxicity. It can also be used as a halogen absorber for polyethylene and polypropylene to eliminate the adverse effects of residual catalyst on color and stability. As a plasticizer in rubber processing, it can soften natural rubber and synthetic rubber, and has almost no effect on vulcanization. It is also used as a lubricant for polyolefin fibers and molding compounds, a thickening agent for grease, a waterproofing agent for textiles, a flattening agent for paints, and a plasticizer for manufacturing plastic records. It is also used in the production of pencil lead and medicine and perfume industry.
