AG exerts its neuroprotective effect by inhibiting NO produced by iNOS during reoxygenation after the end stage of hypoxia. The half-life of Aminoguanidine is about 6-8 hours in vivo and about 4.4 hours in human with normal renal function. Aminoguanidine is also an inhibitor of the formation of advanced glycation end products.
