Sclerotium Gum, also known as Scleroglucan (Sclg), is a non-ionic homopolysaccharide secreted by fungi of the genus Sclerotium, has a backbone build up by β-1,3-D-glucopyranosyl units with single β-1,6-D-glucopyranosyl side chains linked to every third residue in the main chain. In aqueous solution, it exhibits a linear, rigid, triple helical structure.
Sclerotium Gum is a water soluble, nature-derived polysaccharide produced by fermentation of the filamentous fungus Sclerotium rolfsii. It is a highly versatile ingredient, which improves the sensory characteristic of personal care products. Scleroglucan has rheological properties, and unlike most natural and synthetic gums, has high thermal stability, is resistant to hydrolysis and retains skin moisture.

Sclerotium Gum is a natural, high-performance polysaccharide derived from the fermentation of Sclerotium rolfsii, a type of fungus. Known for its exceptional thickening, stabilizing, and film-forming properties, it is a versatile ingredient in skincare formulations. Its ability to enhance texture, provide hydration, and improve product stability makes it a valuable addition to modern skincare products.
Key Functions of Sclerotium Gum
Texture Enhancement: Sclerotium Gum acts as a natural thickener, providing a smooth, luxurious texture to skincare products.
Moisture Retention: Sclerotium Gum forms a protective film on the skin’s surface, locking in moisture and preventing water loss.
Stabilization: Sclerotium Gum improves the stability of emulsions and suspensions, ensuring a consistent product performance.
Soothing & Calming: Sclerotium Gum helps soothe irritated or sensitive skin, reducing redness and discomfort.
Non-Greasy Feel:Sclerotium Gum provides a lightweight, non-greasy finish, making it ideal for a wide range of skincare formulations.
Sclerotium Gum Mechanism of Action:
Sclerotium Gum works by forming a hydrogel network that binds water molecules, creating a protective barrier on the skin’s surface. This barrier helps to lock in moisture, enhance product texture, and stabilize formulations.
Advantages of Sclerotium Gum
Natural & Sustainable: Derived from natural fermentation, it aligns with clean beauty and eco-friendly trends.
Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of products, including creams, lotions, serums, and masks.
Gentle & Safe: Suitable for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and free from harmful additives.
Proven Efficacy: Backed by scientific research, it delivers visible results in improving skin hydration and texture.
Synergistic Effects: Works well with other active ingredients, enhancing their stability and effectiveness..
