Adenosine in the body Function
1. Brain: Promoting sleep and suppresses arousal acting as a central nervous system depressant.
Heart: Causing dilation of the coronary blood vessels that Improving blood circulation to the heart; Increasing the diameter of blood vessels in the peripheral organs; Decreasing heart rate.

2. Blood: Broken down by adenosine deaminase. By taking medicine like Dipyridamole(inhibitor of adenosine deaminase), it can improve blood flow through the coronary blood vessels that supply the heart muscles.

3. Kidneys, lungs and liver: In the kidneys adenosine decreases renal blood flow and decrease the production of rennin from the kidneys. In the lungs it causes constriction of airways and in the liver it leads to constriction of blood vessels and increases breakdown of glycogen to form glucose.

Adenosine is an important nucleoside composed of adenine and ribose. It is a white crystalline odorless powder with slightly salty or bitter taste. It is easily soluble in hot water and almost insoluble in alcohol. It is separated by yeast nucleic acid hydrolysis. Adenosine is a nucleoside consisting of an adenine molecule connected to a ribose molecule (ribofuran) part by a β-N9-glucoside bond. Adenosine is involved in energy transfer in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and in signal transduction in the form of cyclic adenosine phosphate (cAMP). It is a purine D-ribonucleoside, a member of the adenosine family, which is functionally related to adenine and has neuroregulatory, cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and cardioprotective effects.
