      Sodium Tripolyphosphate/STPP  


    Sodium tripolyphosphate, is a kind of inorganic compound, chemical formula Na5P3O10, is a kind of amorphous water-soluble linear polyphosphate, often used in food, as water retention agent, quality improver, pH regulator, metal chelating agent.

    White powder, melting point 622℃. Easily soluble in water, its aqueous solution is alkaline, 1% aqueous solution pH is 9.7. It gradually hydrolyzes in water to form orthophosphate. It can coordinate with calcium, magnesium, iron and other metal ions to form soluble complexes.

    Polyphosphate is one of the earliest, most widely used and most economical corrosion inhibitors for cooling water. Besides being used as corrosion inhibitor, polyphosphate can also be used as scale inhibitor. Using polyphosphate alone, when the pH value is 6.O ~ 7.O, the use concentration is 20 ~ 40mg/L, when the pH value is 7.5 ~ 8.5, the general use concentration is 10 ~ 20mg/L. In order to improve the corrosion inhibition effect and reduce the amount of polyphosphate, it is usually combined with zinc salt, molybdate, organophosphate and other corrosion inhibitors. The formula of phosphorus system requires a certain concentration of calcium ions in the cooling water. From the perspective of corrosion inhibition, it should not be less than 30mg /L (CaCOa), and the dissolved oxygen in water should be more than 2mg/L, which can be met by the open circulating cooling water system. Polyphosphate is suitable for water temperature below 50℃. Don't stay in the water for too long. Otherwise, phosphate hydrolysis to orthophosphate will increase the tendency to produce phosphate scale.
