It is a light yellow transparent oily liquid at room temperature, with a melting point of 13.4 ℃ and a specific gravity of 0.8905. It is insoluble in water and transforms into stearic acid during hydrogenation. It has the general chemical properties of organic carboxylic acids and the chemical properties of unsaturated double bonds. Products included: cotton oleic acid, vegetable oleic acid, soybean oil acid.

Main uses of octanoic acid:

Capric acid is widely used as a raw material for plastic plasticizers, engineering plastics, synthetic fibers, nylon 8 and 9, synthetic detergents, washing soaps, paints, inks, wax paper, carbon paper, ballpoint pen oil, textile oil additives, wood anti-corrosion additives, crude oil recovery additives, demulsifiers, etc. The production of synthetic pesticide emulsifiers, textile printing and dyeing auxiliaries, various oleic acid soaps, and basic raw materials for metal cutting fluids. It can also be used as a mineral flotation agent, film removal agent, etc.
