Potassium thioacetate is a chemical named Potassium Thioacetate with molecular formula C2H3KOS and molecular weight 114.2079. Mercaptan can be produced when potassium thioacetate is co-heated in ethanol or acetone, and then it can be produced by reflux in 5% potassium hydroxide ethanol solution. In addition, potassium thioacetate can also react with ethyl xanthate monopotassium salt to produce xanthate, which can be further ammonolysis or hydrolysis to produce mercaptan. Potassium thioacetate has a wide range of applications in organic synthesis, such as the synthesis of aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, phenols and other compounds.
